2025 NBA Draft: Tyrese Proctor becomes latest Duke basketball player to enter draft

by

Duke basketball’s Tyrese Proctor will enter the 2025 NBA Draft, the Blue Devils announced Friday night.

A player that was a part of head coach Jon Scheyer’s first recruiting class, Proctor scored more than 1,100 points in three seasons with the Blue Devils. The 6-foot-6 guard from Australia was a part of two ACC Tournament championships, an Elite Eight appearance and a Final Four berth.

Proctor joins freshman Kon Knueppel as Duke‘s first two players to enter the NBA Draft, which is June 25-26 in Brooklyn. Cooper Flagg and Khaman Maluach, Duke’s other two freshmen in the starting lineup, are expected to enter the draft before the April 26 deadline.

Shortly after the Proctor announcement, Duke released a video featuring head coach Jon Scheyer, who described Proctor as a “steadying force” on the court and added “it’s time for him to chase that NBA dream.”

“It’s been an incredible ride with Tyrese Proctor,” Scheyer said.

“To me, it’s about the journey we’ve been on the past three seasons. … To see him, this season, the way he shot the ball and the way he defended, in particular, was as high of a level as any guard in the country.”

Here’s a look at Proctor’s stats and possible landing spots in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Tyrese Proctor stats

Proctor averaged 12.4 points, 3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game as a junior in his most consistent season at Duke. He shot a career-best 40.5% from 3-point range, hitting multiple 3-pointers in 22 of 38 games, including 13 treys in the first two games of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Proctor’s best game as a Blue Devil came in the second round against Baylor. The Aussie scored 25 points, knocking down 9 of 10 shots, including seven 3-pointers. He also helped the Blue Devils win at a high level, being a part of 89 wins in three years.

Tyrese Proctor NBA Draft profile, projections

Proctor’s shot-making from beyond the arc is his best skill, shown consistently in his final season in Durham. He reached double-digit points in three of Duke’s five March Madness games last season, but Proctor struggled to come up clutch in the final game of his final two seasons with the Blue Devils. In losses to N.C. State and Houston, Proctor averaged 3.5 points on 12.5% shooting, missing each of his nine shots against the Wolfpack before missing six of eight shots against the Cougars.

In addition to his perimeter shooting, Proctor is an elite on-ball defender with versatility as a 6-foot-6 guard. As for his weaknesses, Proctor has struggled to consistently create for others and finish in the paint, so that could lead to him going later in the draft than expected. Most projections have Proctor landing somewhere in the second round, with a skill set comparable to Evan Fournier. But with his size and shooting, Proctor will find a landing spot in the NBA.
