The 2026-27 basketball season will be the 12th for Tennessee under head coach Rick Barnes.
He enters the 2026-27 campaign after advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in the last four years and appeared in the Elite Eight for three consecutive seasons.

Barnes has compiled a a 257–121 (122–73 SEC) record at Tennessee, winning a SEC regular-season championship in 2018 and 2024, and the 2022 SEC Tournament.
He ranks fifth nationally for total pay ($6,200,00) and has a $12,250,000 school buyout, according to the updated USA TODAY Men’s Basketball Head Coach Salaries database following the 2025-26 season.
Since 1987, Barnes has compiled a 861–435 career record and has one NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance (2003).
