2026 UNC Football Player Breakdown: WR Jordan Shipp

North Carolina wide receiver Jordan Shipp is coming off of a career year ib 2025.

Despite UNC’s offense being one of the worst in college football last season, that didn’t stop Shipp from having a breakout 2025 campaign. He caught 60 passes for 671 yards and six touchdowns, leading all North Carolina wide receivers in each category and earning All-ACC honorable mention. He scored in four of the Tar Heels’ final five games.

He finished with 227 yards after the catch (3.8 per reception), 8.9 yards per target, a long gain of 55 yards, three drops (4.8%), 14 contested targets with seven catches (50%) and 35 first down catches.

While Shipp is not really a deep threat, he showed he is capable of stretching the field. He caught six passes on 10 targets for 147 yards (24.5 yards per reception) and three touchdowns, with 5 yards after the catch per reception, 14.7 yards per route run and a two-for-three mark on contested targets.

Without a doubt, Shipp will be North Carolina’s No. 1 option in the passing game. While that might be the most obvious statement ever typed, he has a chance to take his game to another level.

If there is anybody who will benefit from Bobby Petrino taking over as UNC’s offensive coordinator, it’s Shipp. Petrino’s offenses tend to be among college football’s best.

In 19 years as either a head coach or offensive coordinator, Petrino’s offenses have been prolific at every stop. He has had a top-25 offense 11 times, a top-10 offense nine times and a top-five offense six times, including the nation’s top-ranked offense twice.

Shipp has a chance to reach 1,000 yards and 10 touchdown catches and put himself in the All-ACC conversation. That will depend on whether Petrino can revive UNC’s passing game, which has been nearly nonexistent the past two seasons, and whether Billy Edwards can be what the staff believes he can be.
