Of the names being tossed around in the trade conversation, the biggest by far is Kelsey Plum. Rumors that the Los Angeles Sparks will trade the veteran guard before tomorrow have been swirling this week.
That makes for slightly awkward timing: The Sparks are set to play the Portland Fire on Sunday, thirty minutes after the trade deadline. Despite this, Plum says she will still play, though she will be on a minutes restriction; Plum has been out since June 21 due to a lower leg injury.
Plum is in her second season with the Sparks after starting her career with a seven-year stint with the Las Vegas Aces. Reports have indicated that Plum will not re-sign with L.A. after this season; a trade now means that the Sparks would get something in return for the guard rather than let her walk in free agency.
“I’m not taking anything personal. I’m gonna be where my feet are,” Plum told reporters on Thursday. “I play for the Sparks, so on Sunday, I’m gonna suit up.”
