2027 Maryland defensive end names Tennessee football in top schools

Tennessee is recruiting toward its 2027 football signing class.

Four-star defensive end Anthony Sweeney named Tennessee in his top 12 schools, along with Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn, Oregon, Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, LSU, Miami, Maryland and Texas Tech, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect is from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Maryland. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 3 defensive end in the class and No. 1 player in Maryland.

Tennessee offered Sweeney a scholarship on Jan. 13, 2025. He has unofficially visited Tennessee twice, most recently for the Vols’ football game against Oklahoma on Nov. 1, 2025.

Penn State was the first school to offer him a scholarship on Jan. 29, 2024. Other Power Four schools to offer him scholarship Florida, West Virginia, Syracuse, South Carolina, Minnesota, Duke, Michigan State, Indiana, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Rutgers, Ohio State, Boston College, USC, Michigan, Nebraska, Virginia, Clemson, Florida State, Kentucky, UCLA, California and Notre Dame.

Tennessee has four commitments in its 2027 football recruiting class: linebacker JP Peace, cornerback Kamauri Whitfield, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo and defensive lineman Kadin Fife.
