The Oregon Ducks are among the leaders in the recruitment for 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, but the 6-foot-7, 300 pound prospect made a surprising announcement on Wednesday that clouded the future picture for Dan Lanning and his team.
Originally, Cantwell was scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon this weekend for the spring game, and then announce his commitment between the Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Miami Hurricanes next week on April 30. While he still plans to be in Eugene this weekend, the rest of the schedule has been altered.

Cantwell announced on Wednesday that he would be pushing back his commitment date to May 13 and taking an unofficial visit to Georgia on May 10.
While the Ducks are still in a good spot, getting the only official visit for Cantwell and hosting him for the spring game, this does present some slight concern, seeing as they no longer have the final visit for the No. 1 overall prospect in the class. Kirby Smart has an opportunity to get the last word before his ultimate commitment.
Given Lanning and Cantwell’s close relationship, both being from Missouri, and Oregon’s track and field connection, the Ducks are still in a strong position to land the elite prospect. However, this is undoubtedly a change in his recruitment worth following.
