Trey Thompson comments on Iowa basketball commitment, reclassifying

by

In a massive recruiting win for Iowa basketball on Saturday, four-star forward Trey Thompson announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes.

The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward out of Greeneville, Tenn., chose the Hawkeyes over offers from some powerhouse programs, including Tennessee, Purdue, Kansas, Clemson and Vanderbilt.

Initially a 2026 recruit, Thompson announced he is reclassifying and will join the Hawkeyes this coming season.

“To start, I want to take the time to thank God for always walking by my side and leading me down the right paths. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for always supporting me through my basketball endeavors. Extremely thankful for my parents for sacrificing so much for me to follow my dreams and passions.

“With that being said, I have decided to re-classify up to the 2025 class and commit to the University of Iowa. Go Hawkeyes,” Thompson wrote in his social media announcement.

Thompson has averaged 21.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game on 56% shooting from the field, 45% from 3-point territory, and 81% from the free-throw line in his three varsity seasons from Greeneville High School, per his MaxPreps profile.
