Announced on Monday, Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach Kalen DeBoer has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Dodd Trophy.
Among the 26 coaches named to the preseason watch list, the trophy, which was founded back in 1976, recognizes the top head coach across college football annually, and has been won by Alabama twice previously. Those winners were Nick Saban (2014) and Bill Curry (1989).

Entering year two in Tuscaloosa, DeBoer is coming off a first season in which the Crimson Tide finished with a 9-4 overall record, as well as a 5-3 mark in SEC play. This was also the first season Alabama had not won double-digit games since finishing 7-6 overall back in 2007, Saban’s first year in Tuscaloosa.
DeBoer is one-of-eight SEC coaches named to the preseason watch list, a number that leads all conferences. In addition to DeBoer, those names are Eliah Drinkwitz (Missouri), Mike Elko (Texas A&M), Josh Heupel (Tennessee), Brian Kelly (LSU), Steve Sarkisian (Texas), Kirby Smart (Georgia), and Brent Venables (Oklahoma).
