NC State Hires Josh Stanfield as Assistant Coach
NC State on Saturday announced the hiring of Josh Stanfield as an assistant coach on the swimming and diving staff.
Stanfield spent two seasons with the men’s team at Notre Dame, helping it to a program-best second-place finish at the 2024 ACC Championships and guiding Chris Guiliano to qualification to the Paris Olympics. (The Fighting Irish were suspended from competition last year due to gambling withing the program.)
“I’m truly thankful to Braden for this incredible opportunity and for the warm welcome my family and I have received from Wolfpack Nation,” Stanfield said in a university press release. “NC State stands among the elite programs in the country, consistently competing at the highest levels both nationally and internationally. I’m eager to begin this journey with the student-athletes and coaches alike, to help take the program to even greater heights, and to bring unwavering passion and energy to everything we do. Go Pack!”
Stanfield is familiar with the area, having spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Duke. The Blue Devils’ women’s team matched their best ACC Championships finish (fifth) in 2022 and finished 24th at NCAAs. They also qualified 10 swimmers to the cancelled 2020 NCAA Championships.
Stanfield swam at Southwestern University in Texas. The Huntsville, Texas, native graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. He served as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, while also coaching age-groupers at Nitro Swimming. He spent five seasons as an assistant coach and one as an associate head coach at Gardner Webb University.
“We’re proud to welcome Josh Stanfield— a coach who brings vision, passion, and a relentless drive to help us rise to the next level,” NC State head coach Braden Holloway said. “With a proven track record of excellence, a passion for developing athletes in and out of the pool, and a vision that aligns with our core values, Josh brings the energy, experience, and integrity needed to help us move into our next chapter. We are excited to welcome Josh, his wife Kristin, and their son Hayden to Wolfpack Nation.”
