WNBA fans were met with exciting news on Tuesday when it was announced Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark would take part in the 3-point contest during the WNBA’s All-Star weekend for the first time.

Clark, who is shooting an uncharacteristically poor 28.9% from beyond the arc on 8.1 attempts per game, will put her accuracy from distance to the test against defending champion Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream. She will also battle Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu and rookie Sonia Citron.
Clark opened up about her decision to take part in the competition, which, according to the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, was a bit of a no-brainer for her. She also addressed the rumor that she did not want to participate in the event.
“I know there was a narrative going around that I didn’t want to do that at one point, which I’m not sure who made that up, but that’s false, because I am doing it,” she said on Tuesday ahead of Indiana’s game against the Connecticut Sun. “I was just saving my first 3-point competition (for) my own city. Whoever said that, that was a lie.”

Clark made it abundantly clear the rumor about her not wanting to participate in the competition was untrue.
The 23-year-old then shared her mindset heading into the highly anticipated event, despite her lack of preparation.
“I’m not sure if I’m going to have any time to practice,” she continued. “I think there’s a practice session, maybe our practice day on Friday when our teams get together. I think we have one day of practice as a team, and maybe the participants can shoot there a little bit before on Friday, before the competition.

“But at the end of the day, it’s just really not that deep or that serious, so just go out there and have fun and shoot it. It’s just a ball of hope in a rack, I guess, and just have fun doing it.”

Serious or not, it’s hard to imagine Clark, who is an ultimate competitor, going out there half-heartedly. Surely, she’s going for that W.
