The Auburn Tigers received more positive recruiting news for men’s basketball this week. Earlier in the week four-star small forward Chris Washington named the Tigers as one of his top seven potential landing spots. On Wednesday, Rivals Joe Tipton reported that five-star point guard Tay Kinney had narrowed down his list of schools to 12. The Auburn Tigers are one of a dozen teams he is considering.
The other 11 schools on the list are Kentucky, Louisville, Arkansas, Texas, Xavier, Kansas, Purdue, Oregon, Tennessee, Miami (FL), and Indiana. As a six-foot-two point guard, Kinney is not just the No. 1 player in Georgia but the top player at the position nationally. Per 247Sports, Kinney is rated as the No. 11 player overall. He is currently playing for Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia where he is playing against top competition. He is originally from Newport, Kentucky.

247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein describes Kinney as a scoring threat from the three-point line and a playmaker. He also said that he needs to show some consistency with his defense. If Auburn is able to get commitments from both Kinney and Washington, they could have an exciting duo of players. With it expected that Tahaad Pettiford leaving for the NBA after the 2025-26 season, the Tigers will have an opening in the starting lineup at point guard. Kinney would be a taller point guard than Auburn has had in the past.
