by

Tennessee basketball will host Duke in an exhibition at Food City Center on Oct. 26, UT announced.

The game will take place at 7 p.m. ET with TV designation yet to be determined.

“We have so much respect for (coach) Jon Scheyer and for the Duke basketball program,” Vols coach Rick Barnes said in a school release July 25. “It is an exciting opportunity for our players and our fans to host the Blue Devils here in Knoxville for a high-level exhibition game. We are confident this matchup will benefit both teams and really help prepare us for the upcoming season.”

Duke reached the Final Four last season under Scheyer, who is entering his fourth season since taking over for Mike Krzyzewski.

Tennessee has an 8-8 regular-season record against Duke. The Vols are 1-0 under Barnes thanks to a 65-52 win in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament in Orlando. The programs have played only twice since 1980. The Vols lost 77-67 to the Blue Devils in the 2011 Maui Invitational.

The Vols and Blue Devils have not played in Knoxville since December 1976. The exhibition will be the first time Duke has played at Food City Center.

Tennessee basketball’s exhibition history under Rick Barnes

The NCAA men’s basketball committee approved a proposal in January to allow teams to play two exhibitions. It changed the rule from prior years that exhibitions could be held if proceeds were donated to charity. Schools can decide how to allocate the revenue generated from the exhibitions.
