With Caitlin Clark recovering from injury, the Indiana Fever are still finding ways to win games and remain among the upper tier of WNBA teams. The latest kudos belong to Kelsey Mitchell, who erupted for 35 points in the Fever’s recent win over the Chicago Sky.
That win pushed the Fever to 14-12 on the season and firmly in contention for the WNBA playoffs with their sights on a deep postseason run with a healthy Caitlin Clark.

While Clark recovers, the Fever still belong near the top of the WNBA and CBS Sports’ most recent WNBA Power Rankings confirm them, putting the Fever at No. 4 in the league.

Caitlin Clark underwent further evaluations on her groin injury in New York which revealed no further damage, but she remains sidelined without a return date. Despite her absence, the Fever closed the week with two wins over the Aces and Sky to climb into sixth place and gain some much-needed breathing room in the playoff picture. Kelsey Mitchell poured in season-high 35 points against the Sky and now has four 35-point games, which is tied for ninth all-time. – Jack Maloney, CBS Sports
Holly Rowe, ESPN’s reporter, revealed a timeline for Caitlin Clark’s potential return, coming in a few weeks, with the Indiana Fever wanting to be much more cautious than they have been in the past to avoid further setbacks.
“As you look at their schedule, the third week in August provides a few more practice days where that seems like it’s realistic. While she does remain day-to-day, that seems like a better timetable for a possible Caitlin Clark return,” Rowe said about when Caitlin Clark could return.
