Anderson Silva Vs. Chris Weidman Trilogy Expected, Date TBA

by

UFC legends Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman are expected to compete for a third time.

Per a report from Main Event TV, Silva vs. Weidman 3 will go down not as a cage fight but instead as a boxing match. At the moment, most information is unknown: the contest’s weight class, number of rounds, venue, and date all have yet to be determined. However, Weidman himself reportedly said the bout is happening.

Silva and Weidman’s legacies are forever intertwined. Weidman dethroned Silva from his record-setting Middleweight championship run all the way back in July 2013, catching the Brazilian with his hands down for a shocking KO victory. Less than six months later, Weidman defended his title in the rematch when Silva’s shin exploded from a checked kick.

Some important context here is that Anderson Silva is now 50 years of age. Weidman, though nine years his opponent’s junior, is no spring chicken himself, having recently retired from the UFC roster after a rough streak saw him lose three of four bouts. Silva has boxed a fair amount in recent years, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. while losing to Jake Paul (watch highlights). Weidman has never stepped into the professional boxing ring. Most recently, he was taken for a ride by would-be MMA promotion Global Fight League, who remain unlikely to ever hold an event of any kind.
