Basha linebacker picks Idaho State over 3 other FCS programs

UPDATED: 8/9/25

Two more players made their college commitments this week. One is to a Big Sky Conference school and the other is a Midwest college new to Division II. Overall, 62 seniors have announced their college intentions – which will not become official until December.

Times for all future games are in Arizona time (MST)

Last Sunday, Basha linebacker Kaedyn Smith committed to Idaho State University. The 5-11, 175-pound defender is one of many returners to a loaded Bears’ defense in 2025. Smith received his offer from the Bengals in early June and selected ISU over North Dakota, Utah Tech, and Illinois State. He has a 39.5” vertical leap and can also play both safety positions. Last season, in his first year as a starter, Smith had 87 tackles, five sacks, and recovered two fumbles.

”I chose Idaho State University because of the culture,” Smith said in a text message. “It seemed like a perfect fit as soon as I stepped foot onto the campus. The coaches made me feel loved and at home. Overall, all-around great vibes and a perfect fit for me.”

Idaho State held its third preseason scrimmage on Saturday in preparation for its season opener in just two weeks. The Bengals will play multiple quarterbacks at UNLV on Aug. 23. Jordan Cooke will be taking most of the QB1 reps in practices leading up to ISU’s trip to Las Vegas. Idaho State finished 5-7 last season and 3-5 in the Big Sky Conference (FCS). The Bengals have scheduled Northern Arizona for Homecoming on Oct. 25.

Marana made the Open Division playoffs for the first time in 2024 behind junior quarterback Colten Meyer. The 6-1, 190-pound signal caller got his recruitment out of the way before his senior campaign begins as he committed to the University of Jamestown on Wednesday night. Meyer threw for 3,687 yards last season (335 yds/game) and had 30 touchdown passes for the Tigers. He was offered by Jamestown in June.

”I chose Jamestown because the culture and the environment are what stood out to me,” Meyer said in a text message. “The coaching staff is full of great people that want to win football games and give the players a chance to compete day in and day out!”

Jamestown begins its first season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (Div. II) after moving up from the NAIA. The Jimmies were tabbed to finish last in the 14-team league in the preseason coaches’ poll. UJ reports to fall camp on Tuesday with practice starting the next day. Jamestown (3-7 last season) opens on Sept. 6 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Augustana.

Portland State offers Mountain Ridge quarterback Baughman

UPDATED: 8/9/25

Colleges across the nation continue to take notice of the prep talent in Arizona each season. More than 380 players from the Class of 2025 signed with schools to advance their football careers and receive a education.

Times for all future games are in Arizona time.

The month of August is a Dead Period for FBS schools. During this time, it is not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts on or off of college campuses. There is also a break from official and unofficial visits, which are not allowed. This period will last through August 31.

Mountain Ridge quarterback Lukas Baughman hauled in his first Division I offer on Tuesday when he got one from Portland State. The 6-5, 200-pound signal caller started for the Mountain Lions last season. Baughman threw for 1,151 yards and had 10 touchdown passes. He finished the season strong with seven of those TDs coming during a 3-1 finish for MRHS. Baughman is a multi-sport athlete and batted .355 for the Lions last spring with six stolen bases. In the classroom, he carries an 3.80 GPA. On the field, his strengths are leadership, arm talent, mobility, and football IQ. Portland State held its second scrimmage on Saturday as the Vikings will be starting in two weeks (Week 0) at home against Tarleton State (Tex.). With most schools opening the following week, PSU gets some national coverage as ESPN2 will televise the game against the Texans on Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m. Four different Portland State players played quarterback in the scrimmage, but a starter has still yet to be named. The Vikings went 3-8 last season and 3-5 in the Big Sky. PSU misses Idaho State this year, but will host Northern Arizona on Sept. 27 in Hillsboro Stadium.

Here’s the rest of the offers since August 2nd:
Buena linebacker Cooper Kraus received an offer from Buena Vista (Iowa).
Cienega wide receiver Jaden Rodgers received an offer from Augustana Univ. (S. Dak.).
Mica Mountain long snapper Caden VanWinkle received an offer from Culver-Stockton (Mo.).
Millennium long snapper Jacob Mindel received offers from Lyon (Ark.) and Kansas Wesleyan.
ALA-Ironwood offensive tackle Gage Barrett received an offer from Bethel College (Kans.).
Eastmark safety Kaleb Kalama received offers from Saint Mary of the Woods (Ind.), Pacific (Ore.), Buena Vista, and Simpson College (Iowa).
Arizona College Prep linebacker Lachlan Doty-Bardwell received an offer from Cornell College (Iowa).
Chandler defensive end Craig Noble received an offer from Arizona Christian.
Pusch Ridge wide receiver Dominic Painter received an offer from George Fox (Ore.).
Casteel wide receiver Eric Avila received an offer from Kansas Wesleyan.
Mesquite quarterback David Ramirez received an offer from Kansas Wesleyan.
Sahuaro defensive tackle Jaxson Moore received his first offer from Simpson College (Iowa).
Camelback defensive tackle Sifita Kakau received an offer from Arizona Christian.

Desert Vista offensive tackle Cole Gragber received an offer from Whitworth (Wash.).
Mesa Mountain View linebacker Cannon Raban received an offer from Benedictine College (Kans.).
Cactus quarterback Luke Berlin received his first offer from Pacific.

This list shows four-year college offers received by seniors throughout the state. It’s not limited to just 6A and 5A. It will be constantly updated as we approach the Early Signing Period on December 3-5. Those will be the first days that high school seniors can sign a letter of intent to agree to attend an institution.

Verbal commitments are shown in bold.
