Trackhouse owner Justin Marks addresses Connor Zilisch NASCAR return timeline after Watkins Glen fall

by

Justin Marks, the owner of Trackhouse Racing, shared an update on Connor Zilisch, who injured his collarbone while celebrating his NASCAR Xfinity series race win at Watkins Glen on Saturday. While speaking to reporters on Sunday after Shane van Gisbergen won the Cup Series race at Watkins Glen, Marks revealed when Zilisch could return to the track.

“I think it’s a discussion that we all have to have,” Justin Marks said. “We haven’t really talked about much, obviously, since yesterday, but in the little bit that we’ve discussed in some of the quiet moments over the last 24 hours, it’s going to have to be a group decision. It’s going to have to be sponsors, Chevrolet, the team, taking care of his development, taking care of him as a human and as an athlete, and then keeping his motivations high and making sure he knows he’s got a group of people behind him that are supportive of him.”

While celebrating his win in Victory Lane, Connor Zilisch fell from his car and was taken to a local hospital. As he made a pose on the door and roof of his car, Zilisch lost his footing and fell to the ground. His injury led to him missing the Cup Series race on Sunday.

On Sunday, Zilisch detailed the incident during an interview with the USA Network. “I was climbing out of the car, and obviously the window net was on the door and as soon as they started spraying water, my foot slipped and the last thing I remember was being halfway down and falling,” Zilisch said per NASCAR.com, “so glad it wasn’t any worse and that the collarbone the extent of the injuries, but I hate I couldn’t make it to the race today and give myself a shot to get a good result for Trackhouse and Red Bull.”

Zilisch is having a memorable Xfinity Series season, as he has won six races. He competes for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series but drives for Trackhouse on a part-time basis in the Cup Series. Zilisch has competed in three Cup Series races this year, and his best showing was at Atlanta, where he finished 11th.
