The U.S. Roster for the World Junior Championships; Several Athletes Taking on Five-Event Slates

Just one week remains before the start of the World Junior Championships in Romania, and the United States is set to unleash a strong squad on the competition. While a 19-athlete women’s team is prepared to race, the men’s roster features 26 athletes. The difference in roster size can be attributed to the number of female athletes who will take on multi-event duty during the six-day meet.

Three women are slotted to race in five individual events for Team USA. Charlotte Crush (Tennessee recruit) is entered in all three backstroke events, along with the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly. Meanwhile, Rylee Erisman is set to take on the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, as well as the 50 backstroke and 100 backstroke. The third individual tackling five solo events is Audrey Derivaux, who will race the 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and both individual medley events.

On the men’s side, the most individual events for an athlete is three. Aiden Hammer will contest the 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle while Gabe Nunziata is slated for all three breaststroke events. Gavin Keogh will swim each of the backstrokes.

The United States is using a multi-meet process in selecting its roster for next year’s Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, and the World Junior Championships is the last of the competitions for qualifying.
