UFC Vegas 109: Eric McConico reacts to scattered scorecards in win
UFC on ESPN 72 winner Eric McConico talks to MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight after his split decision victory over Cody Brundage.
LAS VEGAS – Eric McConico met the media Saturday after his split decision win over Cody Brundage at UFC on ESPN 72.
McConico (10-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took a pair of 29-28 scores from Brundage (11-7-1 MMA, 5-6-1 UFC) to open up the card at the UFC Apex. The dissenting scorecard in Brundage’s favor was a 30-27.
After his first UFC win, McConico, who was a 2-1 underdog in the hastily booked fight, said the scorecards took him by surprise.
“I was a good 75 (percent confident) because he did take me down,” McConico said at his post-fight news conference. “But I just felt like he didn’t really do anything – he just laid on me. I’m happy (the judges) are making that more of an issue. You just can’t lay on somebody. We’re in a fist fight, and I think I was bringing the fight to him all three rounds.”
