The 2025 college football season is fast approaching, and anticipation grew with the release of the preseason AP Top 25 on Monday. As with every poll release, fans quickly took to social media to share their opinions on which teams are the most underrated and which are the most overrated heading into the season.

As for being the most overrated, fans bypassed the top 10 and circled the 15th-ranked Florida Gators.

“It’s here and it’s glorious…,” one fan said. “The Preseason College Football AP Poll. I think Florida is grossly overrated! What about you?”

“Florida is ranked too high, and with its schedule, I would not rule out the Gators starting the season 1-4,” another wrote.

“Florida definitely ranked too high,” added another.

“Too high – Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, K-State,” said a fan. “Too low – Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas Tech.”

“Bama, SC, and Florida too high,” a fan added. “Ole Miss and Oklahoma shouldn’t be there.”

“Florida, OU, A&M ….all no business being ranked that high!” said a fan.

Why Florida?

The Gators enter the fourth year under head coach Billy Napier, and while fans are excited to see DJ Lagway open the season as the starting quarterback after going 6-0 in games he started and finished as a true freshman, the reality is Napier remains under .500 at Florida with a 19–20 record.

Things even got so bad after last season’s 41–17 loss to the Miami Hurricanes in Week 1 and the 33–20 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies in Week 3 that Florida boosters raised the funds to buy out Napier. Ultimately, athletic director Scott Stricklin stuck by his head coach, and the team finished the year 8–3 with a four-game winning streak.

But what makes this the season in which Napier can contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff? The talent is there after two top-15 recruiting classes and a top-seven finish in 2025 (247Sports). However, it all comes down to results on the field — and if those results don’t materialize this season, the 46-year-old’s time in Gainesville could soon come to an end.
