WNBA Reacts to Historic Paige Bueckers News on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings were involved in another tightly contested affair on Friday night. On Tuesday, they came out on top against the Indiana Fever, 81-80. The same was not the case for the Wings on Friday, though, as they found themselves on the losing end of a hard-fought battle against the Los Angeles Sparks, 97-96.
Bueckers did all she could for Dallas in this one, finishing with a game-high 29 points on 12-of-21 shooting to go along with four rebounds, five assists and a block in 33 minutes. It still wasn’t enough, as the Wings suffered their 25th defeat of the season.
Bueckers, however, was able to make a bit of history in the loss. She set a new franchise record on Friday night, which prompted a reaction from the WNBA.
“YEAH ROOK! 🏆 Tonight in the Wings vs. Sparks battle, Paige Bueckers (146) passed Odyssey Sims (142) for the most assists by a rookie in franchise history 👏” the league posted on X.

Bueckers’ latest historic milestone is further proof of how incredible her rookie season has been thus far. Unfortunately for the Wings, it has not translated to enough wins for them, as they continue to struggle.
After Friday’s loss, Dallas has a record of 9-25. The Wings have the third-worst record in the WNBA, ahead of only the Chicago Sky (8-25) and the Connecticut Sun (6-26).
Bueckers and Co. will be looking to get back in the win column on Sunday when they take on the Las Vegas Aces in a road game at Michelob ULTRA Arena. It won’t be an easy task, though, as they face off against a red-hot Aces squad that has won six in a row.
