Former Auburn quarterback Zach Calzada was on the roster for just one season, as a shoulder injury kept him from seeing the field during his time on the Plains. Those issues continue to hinder him as he has been ruled out of playing in this week’s game between Kentucky and Eastern Michigan.
Vance Meek of UK Wildcats Wire shared that Calzada injured his shoulder in the Wildcats’ 30-23 loss to Ole Miss last Saturday, which paved the way for freshman Cutter Boley to take over and finish the game. It appears that Boley will get the start for Kentucky this week as Calzada continues to nurse the injury, says Nick Roush of Kentucky Sports Radio. According to Roush, Boley has taken most of the snaps with the first team offense this week, and Calzada had not returned to practice as of Wednesday.

Entering week three, Calzada ranks No. 16 among SEC quarterbacks with 234 passing yards and an SEC-worst 80.5 QBR, with the next lowest belonging to LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who has a rating of 124.0. He has thrown one interception and has yet to connect with a Wildcat receiver for a touchdown through two games.
Calzada’s quest to return to Power Four football brought him to Kentucky after spending two seasons at FCS Incarnate Word. He threw for 6,144 yards and 53 touchdowns in two seasons at the FCS level before returning to the SEC with the Kentucky Wildcats. He signed with Texas A&M out of high school, where he played two seasons. His final year in College Station saw him pass for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns during the 2021 season.
