Former Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman found himself in a difficult situation during his final season in College Station, ultimately losing his job to current starter Marcel Reed after an injury-plagued campaign. This led to his offseason transfer to his father’s alma mater, the Houston Cougars.
For every Aggie fan who appreciates the former five-star prospect’s passion and hard work during his three seasons at Texas A&M, Weigman’s fresh start in the Big 12 with a solid Houston team placed him on the right track, especially after a full offseason of rehabbing, dropping weight, and getting back to his dual-threat form.

After finishing the 2024 season with 819 passing yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions, Weigman’s start to his Houston career hasn’t lit the college football world on fire. Still, it has been noteworthy for those of us who expect to see the Cypress (TX) native look more poised in the pocket, which wasn’t the case in 2024 due to his shoulder injury.
In his first two games, resulting in wins against Stephen F Austin at home and Rice on the Road, Weigman threw for 347 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 59 yards and a score. Despite coming out of the 2022 recruiting class as the top-ranked pocket passer, Weigman has shown the ability to make plays with his legs, which was on full display during Friday’s big-time home test vs. Colorado and coach Deion Sanders.
Under the bright lights as the lone ESPN broadcasted matchup of the night, Weigman tore up Colorado’s defense through the air and on the ground, completing 15/24 for 222 yards and rushing for a season-high 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Houston remains undefeated with a dominant 36-20 win and will take on Oregon State after the Cougars’ Week 4 bye week.
