Four-star quarterback schedules visit with OU later this season

by

The Oklahoma Sooners are still looking for their quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class, and a player that they have yet to offer will be visiting Norman in a few weeks.

Dane Weber from Chaparral High School in Temecula, California announced on X that he will be visiting OU for the second-to-last game of the regular season, when Oklahoma hosts Missouri on Saturday, November 22nd. Weber is a four-star quarterback prospect according to 247Sports Composite, and the 26th best QB prospect in the ’27 class.

Head coach Brent Venables, offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ben Arbuckle, and the Sooners lost out on their top priority at QB in the 2027 class earlier this season, as four-star prospect Peyton Houston decided to stay in his home state of Louisiana and commit to LSU.

Houston is one of only three quarterbacks in the 2027 class that have currently received an offer from Oklahoma so far. Four-star Nebraska commit Trae Taylor was offered in June of 2024 when Seth Littrell was still the OC/quarterbacks coach. He committed to the Cornhuskers in May of this year. Zero-star recruit Jonathan Moore received an offer in March of this year from the Sooners, but he doesn’t profile as the likely future of the position, as his only other offers are currently from Kent State and Sacramento State.

Oklahoma hasn’t offered Weber yet, but there seems to be some mutual interest between the two parties, as he’ll be on hand for OU-Mizzou in a few weeks. He is 6-foot-2, weighs 210 pounds and is the 33rd-ranked player in California. He holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Nevada, Purdue, Sacramento State, San Diego State, USF, Utah, Washington and Colorado.

Quarterback recruiting has been a bit of an adventure over the last few years, as the Sooners saw longtime 2025 commit Kevin Sperry flip to Florida State last winter. When Arbuckle arrived on the job, he was able to flip Jett Niu away fro Oklahoma State and give a OU a QB in the ’25 class.

In the 2026 class, Arbuckle is betting big on four-star QB Bowe Bentley, who committed to OU over LSU this summer. Arbuckle hand-picked Bentley over the likes of one-time commit Jaden O’Neal (who is now committed to Florida State) and Dereon Coleman (who is committed to Miami). Oklahoma’s OC got the guy he wanted, and Bentley is in line for what Sooner Nation hopes is a big future.

After the 2027 class, OU has offered just one passer so far over the next two classes, in 2028 signal-caller Graham Simpson out of Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee. Arbuckle has already identified a QB he has interest in that is a couple of classes away.

Oklahoma will still likely pursue Houston hard until his signing day in December of 2026, just like LSU will be after Bentley until he hopefully signs with the Sooners in a little over two months. However, maybe the beginnings of a backup plan are starting to happen for OU in the form of Weber, and Oklahoma would love to get a win with him in attendance in a few weeks.
