Ohio State adds kicker from the transfer portal

by

Get ready to learn a new name, Buckeye Nation. After several years of kicking woes, Ohio State has landed a kicker out of the transfer portal. Kicker Connor Hawkins has committed to Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

Previously enrolled at Baylor, Hawkins was a perfect 37 for 37 on extra point attempts and 18 of 22 on field goals, going 3 of 4 from 50-plus yards. His career long is 54 yards. This is a huge pickup for the Buckeyes, who have witnessed missed field goals cost them games against Georgia in the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinals, as well as against Oregon and Michigan in 2024, and against both Indiana in the 2025 Big Ten Championship game and Miami in the 2025 CFP quarterfinals.

With Jayden Fielding out of eligibility and Jackson Courville leaving OSU for Tulane via the transfer portal, Ohio State was without a kicker heading into the spring. Hawkins fills that role with plenty of on-field production.

Hawkins is the 12th Buckeye to be added via the portal. Being the only kicker on the team, Ohio State will most likely look to add at least one more kicker. Hawkins comes to Columbus as a redshirt sophomore and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
