Following No. 10 Iowa women’s basketball’s 91-70 victory over No. 11 Ohio State in which senior guard Taylor McCabe sustained a potentially serious non-contact left knee injury on the game’s first possession, Hawkeyes head coach Jan Jensen commented on her team’s resiliency.
“When that situation happened, the team just rallied, and we just gave it about five seconds. I said, ‘Listen, Taylor’s probably not coming back in this game. This is why we’ve been deep. Addie’s ready to go.’

“And I called the play. And we just went on. I knew Addie would be ready to answer the call. I really did. She has been. So I’m very, very grateful for all of that and just really sick about Taylor’s injury,” Jensen said.
McCabe, a 5-foot-9 senior guard from Fremont, Neb., has been averaging 8.5 points per game on 37.8% shooting from the field and 37.4% from 3-point range across 20 starts.
Deal was immediately able to step up in the absence of McCabe, recording a new career-high of 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting, while adding five assists, three rebounds, one block, and one steal in 32 minutes of action.

For the Hawkeyes, McCabe will undergo an MRI to assess the severity of her left knee injury. In the meantime, Deal’s workload will naturally increase as the team travels to Los Angeles, Calif., for games at USC and No. 3 UCLA.
Iowa’s next game will be against the Trojans (11-9, 2-5 Big Ten) from the Galen Center in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, Jan. 29. That contest will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.
