Jamie Mullarkey vs. Quillan Salkilld UFC 325 preview

Mullarkey (18-8 MMA, 6-6 UFC) enters his first fight of the year following a unanimous decision win over Rolando Bedoya in September. That result marked a return to the win column after back-to-back losses to Nasrat Haqparast and Mauricio Ruffy.

Salkilld (10-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will aim to keep his double-digit winning streak alive after a first-round knockout of Haqparast in October. The Dana White’s Contender Series vet has won all three of his UFC fights, including wins over Yanal Ashmouz and Anshul Jubli.

Jamie Mullarkey vs. Quillan Salkilld UFC 325 expert pick, prediction

Kicking off the main card is a proper lightweight action fight between Quillan Salkilld and Jamie Mullarkey.

Salkilld, who was initially slated to face Rongzhu, will now face a fellow Aussie in Mullarkey. That said, Mullarkey was recently in shape for a grappling competition and was apparently gunning for a spot on this card.

Mullarkey’s chin is the obvious red flag in this fight, but I believe that he could be more lively against Salkilld than the current odds indicate. Although Salkilld has already produced a pair of highlight-reel knockouts in just three appearances, the 26-year-old has arguably shown some questionable depth to his game when the fights get extended.

Even after thoroughly out-scoring Yanal Ashmouz for the first two frames, Salkilld allowed his opponent to push him backward and get back into the fight by extending exchanges against an arguably fading Salkilld.

Mullarkey may look like Ted Danson’s bastard son, but the 31-year-old is a deceptively experienced Anzac fighter who can more accurately replicate the crosses and hooks that Ashmouz was able to land on Salkilld. Mullarkey will offer size parity, which could also help his chances.

Still, despite giving Mullarkey more credit than most, it’s not enough to pick him with any sort of confidence in this spot. I’ll take the safer pick, but I ultimately believe that this fight will be a lot more competitive than people think.

I’ll semi-reluctantly side with Salkilld to win by decision.
