LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier was named Senior Bowl MVP on Saturday. Nussmeier only threw eight passes and the stat line wasn’t eye-popping, but Nussmeier looked healthy again and his talent was on display. Nussmeier made some impressive throws and showed off his athleticism, too.
Nussmeier was expected to be among the nation’s top quarterbacks in 2025. Ahead of the season, he was discussed as a Heisman candidate and potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. That’s not how it played out as Nussmeier and the entire LSU offense struggled.

Nussmeier clearly wasn’t healthy, though. There were rumors of a camp injury, but LSU head coach Brian Kelly didn’t offer much clarity. Kelly continued to say Nussmeier was progressing, yet it was obvious the veteran QB didn’t have all the physical tools we saw early in his career.
Nussmeier addressed the injury situation last week, indicating he essentially couldn’t use his core to throw.
Now healthy again, Nussmeier has the attention of NFL scouts. He probably won’t be a first-round pick, but he will be one of the first QBs off the board on day two of the draft.
