Shortly after James Franklin was fired by Penn State, it looked like the door had opened for Notre Dame to swoop in a flip some of the Nittany Lions committed players.
On Monday, one of the those former commits, running back Kemon Spell, committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. The Irish were considered a big contender for the 5-star back, but were unable to seal the deal.

Notre Dame does have multiple offers out to other 2027 running back prospects, but Spell was at the top of its recruiting board. More offers could be coming as the Irish turn their attention to other players, but this one hurts.
It looked like Notre Dame had the momentum in his recruitment, but it’s clear now that wasn’t the case. It’s back to the drawing board for the Irish, as they’ll now look elsewhere for a top back in the 2027 class.
