Manon Fiorot opens up on mistakes made in Valentina Shevchenko loss

Manon Fiorot can’t get herself to rewatch her title loss to UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.

Fiorot (13-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC) lost a unanimous decision to Shevchenko in their title fight at UFC 315 last May. Although she won two rounds, Fiorot doesn’t take any positives from her performance.

“I still can’t get myself to watch that fight,” Fiorot told MMA Junkie. “I still haven’t watched it. I think I’ll watch it if I fight her again, but for now, I don’t see the use in watching it. For me, it wasn’t a good fight. I wasn’t in a good mindset. I made a lot of mistakes.

“I didn’t really have a game plan for this fight. It was me that didn’t want to. My coaches had a game plan, but I didn’t listen. I overtrained for the fight. I had a few injuries, but nothing serious. But I overtrained. I got to the fight a little tired.”

The loss fueled Fiorot, who was able to rebound with a first-round TKO of the streaking Jasmine Jasudavicius at UFC Fight Night 262 this past October.

“I changed a lot of things before this fight,” Fiorot said. “I did my camp in Montreal at Tristar, so I changed teams. It was something new for me, so I had a lot of pressure for this fight. I knew this fight I was better than the last Manon, but I didn’t expect to finish her in a minute.”

Fiorot admits she never watched tape on her opponents because it put a lot pressure on her. However, since the Jasudavicius fight and moving forward, things will be different.

“I changed my way of training,” Fiorot said. “I enjoyed training way more. I put an actual strategy for this fight. We had a very specific game plan, which I didn’t have for my previous fights. I previously struggled to watch tape on my opponents, which is what I really changed for this fight. I really studied Jasmine. I watched a lot of her past fights, which I didn’t do before, and I worked a lot on my tactics, my technique.”
