Michigan State women’s basketball uses big second half to rally past Penn State

Behind a big run in the second half, the Michigan State women’s basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit en route to an 81-70 victory over Penn State on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The No. 13-ranked Spartans ended a two-game losing streak with the victory while improving to 20-4 and 9-4 in the Big Ten.

MSU went on a 20-0 run that spanned the late stages of the third quarter and early in the fourth. The Spartans went on a 16-0 run to end the third quarter and scored the first four points of the final quarter while erasing a 14-point deficit. Amy Terrian made three 3-pointers off the bench to spark the run for MSU.

Grace VanSlooten had a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Spartans. Jalyn Brown had 16 points and Rashunda Jones had 14 points and five assists for MSU. Kennedy Blair was also in double figures for the Spartans and had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Kiyomi McMiller had a game-high 37 points to lead Penn State (8-16, 1-12).

The Spartans return to play at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 when they host Big Ten leader and nationally ranked UCLA.
