BLOOMINGTON — The Indiana basketball team turned a 92-74 win over Oregon at Assembly Hall into a blowout in the second half.

The Hoosiers (17-8, 8-6 Big Ten) won for the fourth time in five games with Lamar Wilkerson putting up 41 points as one of four starters in double-digits. The Ducks (8-16, 1-12 Big Ten) have lost 10 straight games and are now tied for last place in the conference.

Lamar Wilkerson eyes second straight Big Ten Player of the Week honor

Lamar Wilkerson’s day started with him earning co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors and ended with him making a strong case to win the award next week.

He came into the game averaging 23.2 points per game in Big Ten Conference play through 13 games, the most by a Hoosier player since 1970-71 when George McGinnis averaged 29.9 points per game. Wilkerson’s average will go up after Monday’s game with him scoring 30-plus points for the fourth time this season and 40-plus for the second time.

The fifth-year senior nearly had as many 3-pointers (six) as Oregon did as a team (seven). He checked out to a standing ovation with 1:57 to go.

Indiana basketball buries Oregon at start of the second half

Indiana basketball stopped playing with its food coming out of halftime. The Hoosiers turned a modest 36-30 lead into a 14-point advantage by scoring every time down the floor before the first media time out (six possessions) without missing a single shot attempt.

Wilkerson and Tucker DeVries both knocked down 3-pointers while Sam Alexis continued to beat up the Ducks on the inside. He didn’t miss a shot (8 of 8) with all of his attempts coming right at the rim.

Lamar Wilkerson erases Indiana basketball’s early shooting struggles

Through the first 13 minutes, Indiana was just 5 of 17 from the field and 2 of 12 from 3-point range with five turnovers, but Wilkerson turned things around for the Hoosiers, basically by himself.

He went off for 16 points in the final seven minutes before halftime without missing a shot. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and put pressure on Oregon by attacking the basket as well.

Oregon briefly broke out a full-court press that ended with Wilkerson facing down Nate Bittle in a one-on-one match at the 3-point line. Bittle barely had time to shuffle his feet before Wilkerson burst past him for a dunk.
