Former LSU football linebacker Greg Penn III has joined Lane Kiffin’s staff at LSU as a defensive analyst, per ESPN’s Matt Moscona. Penn was a three-year starter at LSU and wore the coveted No. 18 in 2024, the jersey awarded to the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a teammate and a Tiger.

Penn was a critical piece of LSU’s defense during his time in Baton Rouge, racking up 264 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles over his four seasons with the program. He was given the George Wallace Memorial Award following his senior season, which is presented to the defensive player who “distinguishes themself by performance, leadership, and commitment to the team.”

Penn tried to find a spot in the NFL this past season but will now return to Baton Rouge to work under his former defensive coordinator, Blake Baker.

His leadership and love for the program should be a major asset to a coaching staff that brought in more than 40 transfers this offseason. With all the new faces in the building, Penn can hopefully help them unite around a common goal: getting LSU the national championship Penn was never able to achieve as a player.
