BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Welcome back, KJ, and welcome back, Illini.
Illinois got its star player back on Tuesday and delivered another emphatic conference victory, dismantling Indiana 94-69 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
It was a total Illini avalanche from the opening tip. Illinois (13-4, 5-2 Big Ten) delivered a resounding knockout blow early in the first half, jumping out to a 25-10 lead and using a 42-14 run to balloon its lead over Indiana (13-5, 4-3 Big Ten) to as many as 30. In an offensive display that at times was reminiscent of their trip to Eugene earlier this month, the Illini had nearly everything working — in the paint, from three and on the glass.

Kasparas Jakucionis made his presence felt immediately in his return after missing the previous two games with a left forearm injury, scoring eight of the Illini’s first 10 points en route to a 19-point first half. He and Tomislav Ivisic also found success in the pick-and-pop, with Ivisic burying three of the Illini’s eight first-half threes.
Those two, with help from a variety of their running mates, caused the Hoosier faithful to rain down a parade of deafening boos as the clock hit zero in the first half. Illinois had sucked the life out of the arena with a 60-point offensive outburst and took 28-point lead into the break.
The Hoosiers did show signs of life after halftime, however. Indiana stormed out of the locker room on a 10-0 run and got the Illini into some serious foul trouble. Jakucionis, Ivisic and Tre White all spent time on the bench for periods of the second half, but their cushion was just too large to ever be truly threatened.
With Jakucionis on the bench after picking up his fourth foul, Kylan Boswell showed some aggressiveness on both ends and used perfect 8-for-8 shooting from the free-throw line to finish with a game-high 22 points. His efforts helped stem the Indiana tide and allow Illinois to cruise to a comfortable victory despite a slower second half.
