Keyshawn Hall ruled out for Auburn basketball’s rematch at Arkansas

by

One of Auburn basketball’s key lineup pieces will not be available for the Tigers’ game at No. 21 Arkansas on Saturday.

According to the SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report for this weekend’s basketball games, Auburn forward Keyshawn Hall is listed as “out” for Saturday’s rematch at Arkansas. The reasoning behind Hall’s status is unknown, but he sat out the remaining 12:38 of Auburn basketball’s recent loss to No. 20 Vanderbilt after shooting 3-for-13 from the field.

The absence of Hall is notable because of his efforts in Auburn’s 95-73 win over the Razorbacks on Jan. 10. Hall connected on 11-of-14 shots from the field for 32 points in Auburn’s first SEC win. He was also 6-for-6 from the free-throw stripe and 4-for-5 from three-point territory.

Who could step up in Hall’s absence? Saturday’s game may be a great opportunity for Elyjah Freeman to gain more minutes. The Lincoln Memorial transfer has started 10 games this season and averages 24.7 minutes per game. His minutes have staggered in recent games, but he has managed to earn at least 27 minutes of action in four of Auburn’s last six games. Another player who could see an increase is Filip Jovic, who averages 6.3 points in 17.8 minutes per contest.

It will be interesting to see how Auburn head coach Steven Pearl builds the rotation for Saturday’s game in Fayetteville in Hall’s absence, and how chemistry builds within the team. The Tigers and No. 21 Razorbacks meet on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CT in Bud Walton Arena. Watch the game live on ESPN.
