As a result of her sensational play as of late, Iowa women’s basketball sophomore center Ava Heiden has been added to the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Late-Season Team, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday.
Through 25 games played, Heiden averages 16.8 points on 63.6% shooting from the floor (5th nationally and 2nd in the Big Ten) and 7.3 rebounds per game. She also leads the Hawkeyes in blocks, averaging 1.1 per game.

The 6-foot-4 Sherwood, Oregon, native registered her sixth career double-double against Nebraska on Monday, Feb. 16, by netting a career-high-tying 27 points on 12-of-15 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line, alongside 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal.
With the stellar performance against the Cornhuskers, Heiden has now reached double figures in 13 straight games, including all 13 Big Ten opponents played this season. She also leads Iowa with eight games of 20 or more points this season.
This latest nomination adds to Heiden’s growing list of honors, which also includes being named the Lisa Leslie Top 10 List earlier this month.
