Oscar De La Hoya claps back, calls Zuffa Boxing ‘a failed science project’

by

As expected, Oscar De La Hoya’s infamous “Clap Back Thursday” was aimed at UFC CEO Dana White and his push into boxing.

This past Sunday, following the third installment of Zuffa Boxing, White took shots at several notables in boxing, including De La Hoya, former world champion turned promoter. De La Hoya has made a tradition of posting a video to his Instagram every Thursday with his opinions, which is usually critical of a current topic in boxing. De La Hoya heard of White’s comments and made the latest edition about White and Zuffa Boxing.

“You call people mentally ill when they don’t agree with you, but guess what, motherf*cker: We’re just telling the facts,” De La Hoya said on his Instagram. “I have never in my entire life seen someone truly believe they’re actually killing it while they’re actually doing jack sh*t.”

White and De La Hoya have a years-long history of feuding. However, with White’s new Zuffa Boxing venture, the two have become more hostile toward each other and with more frequency.

De La Hoya, who owns Golden Boy Promotions, isn’t a fan of what White is doing to the “sweet science.” He finds many things wrong with Zuffa Boxing and doesn’t see it taking off.

“Zuffa (Boxing) is officially a failed science project,” De La Hoya said. “… I had no idea there was a show on Sunday. Zuffa is filled with fighters on the tail end of their careers or who just can’t make it at the highest level. And if they do get some big names at Zuffa, it would only be because they’re donated from Turki. They’re basically hosting club shows in the basement of UFC in front of 50 people.

“They strip fighters of all their individuality, making them wear nasty generic shorts to blend in for the sake of the product. They make it impossible for fighters to grow their own brands. And Jesus, don’t get me started on the made-up belt. They actaully made up a belt, and they want you to believe it has generational value. My f*cking Tom Ford belt has more history and significance.”
