
The Orange and Green will be well represented in the Big Easy this weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, Florida A&M’s new head football coach Quinn Fordham Gray Sr. and former Rattlers stars will participate in the fifth annual HBCU Legacy Bowl at Tulane University’s Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.

All-American offensive lineman Ashton Grable headlines the graduated FAMU players in the HBCU Legacy Bowl. Charles Davis, also an offensive lineman for the Rattlers, will join Grable in the all-star game for draft-eligible players from Black Colleges.
Both were Southwestern Athletic Conference selections during their time at FAMU.
They will play on Team Robinson, named after revered Grambling State head coach Eddie Robinson. Team Robinson comprises players from SWAC and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools.
Gray will coach Team Robinson alongside Prairie View A&M’s Tremaine Jackson.

The new FAMU head coach was actually picked for the HBCU Legacy Bowl for his historic final season leading the Albany State Golden Rams. Albany State went 12-2, its most wins in a single season, won the SIAC title, reached the NCAA Division II quarterfinals, and was named the Black College Football National Champions for Division II.
Gray’s Albany State assistants Nick Sewak and Chris Cash, who followed him to FAMU, will also be on Team Robinson’s staff.
A former FAMU record-setting and hall of fame quarterback, Gray was named the 20th full-time head football coach of his alma mater in December 2025 to replace former Rattlers head coach James Colzie III after two seasons.

Team Robinson faces Team Gaither, named after legendary FAMU head coach Jake Gaither. Team Gaither consists of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association teams.

South Carolina State’s Chennis Berry and Johnson C. Smith’s Maurice Flowers are the co-head coaches for Team Gaither.
FAMU leads the HBCU Legacy Bowl with the most Most Valuable Player honorees, with three in the game’s brief history.
Safety Antwan Collier earned the defensive honor in the first-ever game in 2022. Wide receiver Xavier Smith won offensive honors in 2023, and quarterback Daniel Richardson won the same award in 2025.
The HBCU Legacy Bowl airs on NFL Network, with kickoff at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
