Jailton Almeida breaks silence on UFC departure

Jailton Almeida has broken his silence following his UFC departure, although his next move remains unclear.

In an Instagram post Friday, Almeida (22-5) addressed his departure, reflected on his UFC tenure, and displayed optimism about what’s next.

“I come here to thank all of you who cheer for me, who vibe with me and who have followed me on my journey in the UFC, right?” Almeida said, in Portuguese. “There were 11 fights, four Performance of the Nights and I feel very fulfilled to be part of this organization, right? Thanks to everyone at the UFC, to all the guys who helped me, right? They gave me that support. Everyone was polite and treated me very well.”

Almeida, 34, was largely dominant for much of his UFC tenure. However, back-to-back losses and a lackluster streak of fights result in what will be his UFC pink slip. His only UFC losses came against Kuniev, Alexander Volkov, and Curtis Blaydes.

Almeida indicated that something is in the works, but didn’t specify what. He vowed to prove his worth.

“It’s not those two losses that defined the person, right? This guy is dedicated. This guy is humble. That’s who I am. That’s who I’ve always been, so it’s time to think about new challenges, right? To pursue new dreams. In that way, there’s news coming, right? I’ll be back in the scene again, so that’s it. We’re together. Guys who cheer for me, we’re together in that way, you know?”
