Carmel High School Boys Stalking 12th Straight Indiana State Championship (Psych Sheets)

One week after the Carmel High School girls’ team extended its streak of Indiana state titles to 40, the Greyhounds put themselves in position to claim a 12th consecutive state championship on the boys’ side. Carmel comfortably won its sectional crown on Saturday and will held to the state champs in Indianapolis this coming weekend as the favorite to reign once again in the Hoosier state.

In pursuit of its latest championship, Carmel is led by the junior tandem of Yi Zheng and William Allen. At sectionals, Zheng was the winner of the 200-yard individual medley (1:43.60) and prevailed in the 100 breaststroke in 54.42. Those times are slotted first and second, respectively, for the state meet. As for Allen, he picked up sectional triumphs in the 200 freestyle (1:36.26) and 500 freestyle (4:24.55), with both of those times good for No. 1 seeds at states.

Carmel will arrive in Indy as the top seed in the 200 medley relay (1:29.90) and 400 freestyle relay (3:03.21), and will be the No. 2 seed in the 200 freestyle relay, its time of 1:24.21 trailing only the 1:23.44 of Homestead. The Greyhounds’ Carter Hadley will the top seed in the 100 freestyle (44.46) and 100 backstroke (49.02).

Other No. 1 seeds for the state meet belong to Bloomington South’s Peter Kovacs in the 50 freestyle (20.38), Mt. Vernon’s Ozzy Jankowski in the 100 butterfly (48.63) and Franklin’s Lucas Ackermann in the 100 breaststroke (53.61).
