The latest AP Top 25 didn’t bring any surprises for UConn. The Huskies retained the top spot, which they’ve held all season, and monopolized the first-place votes for the seventh week in a row.
It did bring some history, though. On Monday, Geno Auriemma became the all-time leader in AP Poll appearances by a coach with 655. He surpasses longtime Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer for first place.

Every single one of the Huskies’ AP Poll appearances have been under Auriemma. They received their first votes in week one of 1989-90 and finally got in at No. 25 in week 13. UConn finally cracked the top 20 in week eight of the 1990-91 season, broke into the top 10 for the first time in week three of 1993-94 and earned its first No. 1 ranking on Jan. 17, 1995 after beating then-No. 1 Tennessee at Gampel Pavilion on MLK Day.
The Huskies already own the record for the most consecutive weeks in the AP Poll at 622 and counting. That streak dates back to the beginning of the 1993-94 campaign, when they were ranked 18th. The closest UConn’s been to falling out since then was early in the 2023-24 season, when it dropped to No. 18 following a 4-3 start.
