Kyle Whittingham and the new Michigan football coaching staff are off to a blazing start recruiting the 2027 class. The staff seems to be making solid progress, but the quarterback position is now a big question mark after Peter Bourque’s decommitment a couple weeks back. We share an update on that and discuss more in today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Another QB to watch for Michigan
Michigan needs a new 2027 quarterback following Bourque’s decision to open up his recruitment, and after we’ve seen reports about four-star Illinois commit Kamden Lopati and another four-star in Dane Weber, there is a new name to keep an eye on — three-star Thaddeus Thatcher.

Thatcher — who had a stellar junior year with 3,230 total yards, 36 total touchdowns and just five interceptions — was originally committed to Utah. But when Whittingham departed for Ann Arbor, he decided to open his recruitment back up. He was recruited by Koy Detmer at Utah, and now Thatcher is hearing from him again.
“Yes, I’ve talked to coach Koy quite a bit,” Thatcher told The Michigan Insider ($).
Thatcher is also working on getting a visit to Ann Arbor scheduled.
Four-star OL locks in spring visit
A lot of recruits are making their plans to get out to Ann Arbor in the spring, and 2027 four-star offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo recently finalized his trip. He will be taking a visit on April 18 for the Spring Game.

“I’m excited,” Mageo told The Michigan Insider ($). “I’m looking forward to meeting coach (Jim) Harding and the staff. I’m looking forward to seeing coach Harding coach up the OL. I think it’s cool that the strength coaches are poly with coach Elisaia and coach Salt. I’m looking forward to meeting them, too. Coach Harding has always had a group of linemen that’s always been aggressive when he was at Utah and I’m looking forward to seeing him bring that same style to Michigan.”
Mageo isn’t sure what his top schools will be yet, but expect Michigan to be in the running.
“I haven’t narrowed my top 6-8 schools yet, but they’re definitely making that list,” he said.
