No. 14 Duke overpowers Florida State women’s basketball in 2nd-half surge

No. 14 Duke (21-7, 16-1) used a dominant second half to pull away from Florida State women’s basketball on Thursday night, handing the Seminoles an 80-52 loss at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

At first, it looked like a close ball game as the Seminoles were ahead 20-17 in the first quarter. The Blue Devils took full control in the next period, holding the Seminoles to nine points, leading 33-29 at the half.

Duke dominated in the second half, outscoring FSU 47-23. The Blue Devils shot 41 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3. All five starters reached double figures with Toby Fournier leading the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds

Graduate guard Jasmine Shavers was FSU’s (9-20, 4-14 ACC) top scorer with 21 points. She shot 9-of-20 from the field, marking her sixth 20-point outing of the season. She added two rebounds, two assists and a block.

Junior guard Solé Williams scored 12 points and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds and recorded a steal.

FSU was also outrebounded 54-30. Tatum Greene had a game-high eight defensive boards. Junior forward Pania Davis had three steals and a block, and graduate forward Allie Kubek contributed with two blocks and two steals.

FSU will conclude its regular season on Sunday at Wake Forest at 4 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
