Jorge Masvidal is grappling Shara Magomedov in a submission-only showdown at the upcoming Hype Fighting Championship event on March 11 at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Bewildered fight fans can’t seem to figure out why.

Masvidal has 35 wins in his MMA career but only two by submission and hasn’t secured a tap in well over a decade. Regardless, that’s two more submissions than Magomedov has after 17 professional fights. In fact, “Bullet” hasn’t even scored a single takedown under the UFC banner.
I can’t help but wonder how many competitors said no before Hype called Masvidal and Magomedov.
The 41 year-old Masvidal has been threatening to end his retirement and return to UFC, despite the fact that he left after four straight losses. As for Magomedov, 31, he hasn’t seen action since outpointing Marc-Andre Barriault last summer in Abu Dhabi.
The Hype Brazil ticket page also has a fight poster for UFC fighters Arman Tsarukyan vs. Colby Covington, though nothing official has been announced.
Expect more announcements for the March 11 fight card in the coming days.
