Breaststroker Thi Rai of Bolles School to Join Cal’s Class of 2027
NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has picked up a new verbal commitment for its Class of 2031, this time from Prakhanthi “Thi” Rai out of Jacksonville, Florida. Rai is a Nationals qualifier who is a 100/200 breast and 200 IM specialist.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“After careful consideration, I am proud and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of California, Berkeley! I’m incredibly grateful to my friends and family for their unwavering support throughout this journey. To Coach Peter, Coach Jake and my coaches in Thailand, I can’t thank you enough for helping me become the athlete and person I am today. Finally, I would like to thank Coach Dave, Coach Josh and the team at Cal for this amazing opportunity, I am extremely excited for what’s to come! Go Bears!”
Rai, who now does his club swimming with Bolles School Sharks and previously competed with Santa Clara Swim Club, finished third in the 200 breast, fifth in the 100 breast and 15th in the 200 IM at Juniors East in December.
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 53.44
- 200 breast – 1:55.38
- 200 IM – 1:47.51
- 100 fly – 50.55
Currently a junior at Bolles School, Rai won the 100 breast at the 2025 Florida 1A State Championships to help his team with its 38th straight state title.
The Golden Bears recently won their second Atlantic Coast Conference championship in as many years since joining the conference, edging out rival Stanford for the win. Cal is now vying for its ninth NCAA title.
