The red-hot Notre Dame women’s basketball team will enter the ACC tournament as the No. 5 seed as they found out on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the same record of 20-9 overall and 12-6 in ACC play, the Irish were awarded the highest seed over Virginia Tech and Syracuse because of them sweeping the other two teams during the regular season. They enter the tournament having won 5-straight games and are considered one of the hottest teams in the sport.

The Fighting Irish clinched their seed after a thrilling 65-62 upset victory over No. 10 Louisville in the regular season finale. In the matchup, All-American guard Hannah Hidalgo explored for 30 points, 10-rebounds, seven-assists and five-steals against the Cardinals. Not only did Hidalgo score 30-plus points for the ninth time this season, she also broke the program record for 162-steals in a season.
The Irish are awarded a first round bye and will await the winner of No. 12 Miami or No. 13 Stanford in Thursday’s second-round matchup at 1:30p ET. Should Notre Dame win their first game, they will be awarded the opportunity to play No. 4 NC State on Friday.
The ACC Women’s conference tournament runs March 4-8, with the title game to be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN.
