It is finally starting to feel like spring in Columbus, Ohio. In just one week, this year’s Ohio State Buckeyes will take the field as the first spring practice for the Buckeyes is scheduled for March 10.
These practices are crucial for the coaching staff in not only finding the identity of this year Buckeyes and personnel decisions, but also Ryan Day and the coaching staff will soon play host to many of the nation’s top talents.

Ohio State’s spring visitor list is a monster, and it continues to grow what feels like daily. The upcoming visits will help the Buckeyes narrow down their focus on recruits they believe have what it takes to make a future Buckeye and they are also a key recruiting tool for Ohio Sate.
Over the coming weeks and months, Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class will start coming together even more than it already has. The Buckeyes currently hold verbal commitments from nine of the nation’s top prospects, good enough for the No. 3 class according to 247Sports.
The class is highlighted by five-star edge DJ Jacobs and five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown, and the Buckeyes also have their signal-caller in four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds.
While this is already an impressive group, Ohio State is always looking to add to this haul and on Monday the team took a big step in securing another elite prospect at WR when five-star Kesean Bowman (Brentwood, TN / Brentwood Academy) announced his top five schools and Ohio State was among the group of finalists.
Ohio State has some serious competition for Bowman as Alabama, Miami, Tennessee and Vanderbilt all also made the cut. Leading up to the announcement of his top five, Vanderbilt and Nebraska looked to be the favorites in his recruitment.

Surprisingly, Nebraska was not included in his top five but Vanderbilt remained. Because of this, it is safe to assume Vanerbilt and Tennessee are the biggest competitors for the Buckeyes but Alabama and Miami can never be counted out, especially in the NIL era of college football recruiting.
Bowman is no stranger to Ohio State. The Buckeyes offered him back in June of 2025. Following the offer, Bowman didn’t waste time getting to Ohio State’s campus as he took an unofficial visit with the Buckeyes for their home opener against Texas. Ohio State will need to get him back on campus to remain contenders, and expect them to do so.
Bowman has not yet released a spring visit schedule but he has a visit with Vanderbilt later this month. Ohio State will definitely try and get him on campus at one point this spring, but almost more important will be getting him back on campus for an official visit. Bowman will likely schedule official visits with all of his finalists and these visits will go a long way in helping him make his decision.
As was previously mentioned, Ohio State already has one blue-chip wide receiver committed in its 2027 class in Jamier Brown. However, there has been talk of him wavering on his pledge, despite him saying otherwise. As long as Brown sticks to his commitment, Bowman would make for an excellent addition at the position and the haul would be an incredible win for new Ohio State wide receiver coach Cortez Hankton.

If Bowman does choose to spurn the Buckeyes in favor of one of his other finalists, the Buckeyes have other options to add alongside Brown.
Ohio State is also actively recruiting many of the nation’s other top wide outs including five-star Monshun Sales, who recently scheduled an official visit with Ohio State in June. Sales will not be alone on his official visit though as fellow five-star WR Eric McFarland will also be taking an official visit at the same time.
Bowman is the No. 6 WR in the 247Sports Composite and is the No. 31 national recruit. He is also the No. 2 recruit out of Tennessee.
