Pro Swim Series Westmont, Day 1: Caeleb Dressel 10th in 50 Fly
The Pro Swim Series stop in Westmont, Illinois, kicked off Wednesday morning with a loaded field in the women’s 200 backstroke. To no one’s surprise, Regan Smith led the way in a deep field that features four American Olympians.
Later in the session, Caeleb Dressel went 23.95 in the 50 fly, which was good only for 10th place and a B final swim.
The opening day in Westmont includes the 100 freestyle, which at this event involves prelims-semis-finals format. Wednesday also includes later prelims of the 800 free ahead of finals for the women at night and the men on Thursday.
All the action:
Women’s 200 backstroke
Regan Smith is on top of the 200 back with a time of 2:07.82. She was nearly two seconds clear of runner-up Isabelle Stadden in 2:09.65. The A final includes Phoebe Bacon and Rhyan White in sixth, while Anna Peplowski started the front half of a double by finishing fourth in 2:10.92.
Two Mexican swimmers are in the A final, including Daniela Linares Danzos, a 15-year-old, in fifth and Celia Pulido in eighth. Canadian Madison Kryger was seventh.
