Max Holloway’s famous “point down” gesture has become one of the most iconic moments in recent UFC history.
‘Blessed’ created the moment during a fight against Ricardo Lamas in UFC 199, pointing to the centre of the Octagon and inviting his opponent to trade punches in a dramatic finish.

Since then, several fighters have attempted to replicate the move. However, Holloway believes many of them have misunderstood the real meaning behind it.

Speaking with the UFC, the BMF titleholder explained that the gesture should only happen in very specific circumstances and said some fighters are using it incorrectly.
He even laid out what he described as the “official rules” for the moment.
“Here’re the official rules, guys. If you winning the fight, you’re the person who can cause the 10 seconds,” Holloway said.
“When you cause a 10 seconds you cannot step back or shoot or clinch.

“That’s not the gist of 10 seconds. The gist is the guy winning the fight, last 10 seconds, you give this guy a Hail Mary pass that’s what it is,” the 34-year-old concluded.

The former featherweight champion is scheduled to face Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 this Saturday, where he will put his BMF title on the line.
