Final SEC standings after Texas A&M’s 3 OT 94-91 win vs. LSU

by

Texas A&M (21-10, 11-7 SEC) ended the 2025-2026 regular season on the highest of high notes after defeating Kentucky on Tuesday and LSU on the road in 3 OT, 94-91, in what looked like a must-win game to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. According to nearly every national analyst, the Aggies are a virtual “lock” for the big dance, which is a massive achievement for first-year head coach Bucky McMillan.

In one of the crazier games of the season, the Aggies trailed by 15 points in the first half, looking lifeless on both sides of the ball, until senior guard Rylan Griffen came alive in one of his best performances of the season, scoring 24 points, including five three-pointers, while fellow senior forward Rashaun Agee produced a team-high 26 points and 11 rebounds in 47(!) minutes, and hitting several key shots.

Wrapping up the SEC regular season, it wasn’t a good day for everyone, including the Texas Longhorns, who lost to Oklahoma at home in overtime and are now in fear of missing the NCAA Tournament just a week after defeating Texas A&M in College Station. Florida finished the regular season atop the SEC standings, while the Aggies earned a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament, and will now play the winner of Oklahoma vs. South Carolina on Thursday after the Sooner’s massive road victory.

Finishing 6th in the SEC after being predicted to finish 13th during the preseason, while inheriting a completely depleted roster, should result in first-year head coach Bucky McMillan becoming the frontrunner for SEC Coach of the Year, directly competing with Florida coach Todd Golden.

Heading into the SEC Tournament next week, here are the final SEC basketball standings.
