Texas A&M defensive lineman reportedly medically retires

by

Texas A&M’s 2026 roster will reportedly not include one of its long-time reserve defensive linemen, as GigEm247 beat writer Carter Karels confirmed that DL Jadon Scarlett is no longer on the roster and has reportedly medically retired from football. However, Scarlett has not yet confirmed this report.

Through three seasons (2023-2025), Scarlett recorded just 27 snaps, including 25 on defense and two on special teams, and during his final season, the former three-star prospect racked up six snaps during the Aggies’ blowout win over Samford, finishing with one tackle. Scarlett’s lack of play time was primarily due to the talent in front of him, which would continue heading into the 2026 campaign.

Before the retirement announcement, Scarlett had two seasons of eligibility remaining and could have found a new home through the transfer portal if he planned to continue his football career. While this does not impact the Aggies’ overall depth, it’s interesting to note that Scarlett was one of three players left from A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class, as starting center Mark Nabou and likely starting nickel Bryce Anderson are now the last two players remaining from the cycle.

Texas A&M’s 2026 spring practice season will begin on Friday, March 20, and will end on Saturday, April 18, after the Aggies’ Maroon & White Spring Game. Coach Mike Elko and his staff will officially welcome 17 transfer portal additions and 25 of 26 players from the 2026 signing class, headlined by five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington and four-star running back KJ Edwards.
